![]() She grapples with the series themes of truth vs. She brings out new, realist insights on tried and true characters like Maria and Battler. She in many ways feels like the series missing ingredient. ![]() Of the many new additions to these installments of Umineko, which included Sniper Bunny Girls, Anime Power Battles, and the most tragic goat-man to ever live, Ange is by far the best. The series’ magical girl giallo just works so much better in double time. This episode was such a breath air I was upset when 4’s pacing came to a screeching halt. Eva’s plight, Battler’s struggles and dynamic with Beatrice, and newcomer Ange all tie together in a really fun ways. Alongside this, all the content is immediately relevant to what’s going on and if not, builds up to its major climaxes. It dives straight into new content, and keeps a consistent clip throughout. Unlike Episodes 1 and 2, Episode 3 does not feel a burning need to retread old ground. Pacing and Focus (for Episode 3)Įpisode 3 is the best episode of all the ones I’ve seen so far and I feel like its trump card is its pacing. I’ll say it again- she’s one of the top Visual Novel villainesses for a reason. Whether she’s being sadistic, frigid, immature, or heartbroken, she always captures your attention. By the end of the Question Arc, you may not know *who* Beatrice is, but her motivations are tangible, and if she is who I suspect, potentially tragic. What makes her so enjoyable is how her character is able to juggle so many layers that by the end of Episode 4 merge together into a neat whole. While she has to give up some spotlight to Eva, and doesn’t have as neat and clean an arc, Beatrice also has some incredible highs over these two installments. One that keeps paying off dividends through first half of Episode 4 as well. Her downward spiral from Episode 3’s intro to her final fate in the epilogue is a heart-wrenching ride. Eva proves an excellent human villain – as Episode 3 turns her from the resident snippy rich bitch, into an intelligent woman desperate for recognition from the men in her family at war with her worst impulses.
